GOAL: Reduce the cancer mortality rate in Calhoun County

HOW ARE WE DOING? Calhoun County has experienced a slightly fluctuating rate in cancer deaths over the past five years; and continues to see higher cancer mortality rates when compared to the state. A direct relationship exists between age and cancer mortality, in which the rate of cancer mortality increases as age increases. In Michigan, the cancers with the highest incidence rates are female breast cancer, prostate cancer, and lung and bronchus cancer. Only two of these cancers (lung and bronchus cancer and breast cancer) with the highest incidence rates correlate with the cancers with the highest mortality rates.
